Preparing a business plan is a great first step in opening a business.  A business plan can help you define your product, market, financial projections, team and business goals.

There are numerous business plan websites out there, but here are two that are an excellent place to start:

• Business.Gov. Includes a comprehensive guide to writing a business plan, samples and how to get started.  This site also has a video series that will take you through all the steps to writing a business plan.
• Small Business Administration (SBA).  Offers samples, outlines, strategic planning exercises, an online workshop to help you get started: Interactive Business Plan Development Tool and includes a step-by-step guide to writing a business plan.
